Barbecues, Beaches and Bookclubs – Oh My!

via Flickr Commons, looseendsA circle of friends sat on my deck last night. We’re a book club – of sorts. Really we just like to get together, eat a great meal and talk about our lives: what we’re reading, who’s kids are graduating, our latest passion.  Last night was standard fare and we ended up making our way to a conversation about one member’s foray into bee keeping.  This time next summer we all hope for fresh honey in jars with homemade labels.

It’s officially summer. And scenes like this one are playing out in backyards throughout our neighborhoods.

It’s the season of barbecues, vacations, beach excursions. We dive into pools and sit around campfires. We visit amusement parks, climb mountains, and eat long, lingering picnics in the grass.

But whatever the form, the heart of it all is that we come together. We look in each others eyes and we share our souls.

It sounds so simple. So ordinary.

But it’s powerful magic ~ seeing and being seen (click the link to read more). It’s the greatest risk we take, the grandest gift we give.

I am grateful for so much in my life, but nothing more than those moments when others have looked through my eyes and into my heart. I’ve experienced nothing more sacred than hearing your stories – what brings you joy or makes you cry.

In this season of sunshine, may you savor the sweetness of laughter. May you bathe in the nourishing balm of friendship.

May you gather in circles

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . and share your stories.

Hi Kelly, even though I am not there in person with you, I still value our friendship and the times that we share our stories with each other.
